A different kind of Top 10 list...

Happy New Year!! I know, it's January 2. But day #1 of 2005 for yours truly was spent in the area known as my bed, regretting my actions of the previous evening. Not so much regretting as thinking "hmm, maybe 4 shots in a row wasn't the best decision."

But that was then, and this is now. The second day of a new year. When everything is clean and new (except for the shoes that got puked on at the party on the 31st.) Nevertheless I think January 2 should really be the official start of the new year. You're not hung over, you're realizing all those resolutions you made in the past 2 days are utter crap, and you have an entire day before you have to go back to work and face the people who saw you completely bombed and possibly topless a few days ago. (For the record, I don't believe I was actually topless at any point New Year's Eve - at least I have yet to see any photographic proof that I was, so I am going on the assumption that I wasn't.)

Althought most people make resolutions for the new year, I make "thankful" lists. I know there is no way I'm going to stop smoking (cuz I never started in the first place) or start going to the gym on a regular basis (if I didn't go regularly in 2004, what makes you think it's gonna change in 2005?) So I like to take the time that would be spent creating ridiculous goals for myself to thank the top 10 people in my life who made 2004 so memorable and will make 2005 my best year yet. Until 2006 that is :)

1) The Colombian - You make me laugh and write and pursue my crazy dreams and I am so proud to be your partner in crime (Maybe you don't hear so good...) Thank you for the printer (I know you stole it from your office), the phone calls, the dinners, and the rides home. You're one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I can't wait to see what this year brings us. Now make me a sandwich.

2) My sister - Late night IMs and weekend phone calls get me through my day. I can't wait for July 21. Thank you for being my sister but more for being my friend.

3) My parents - Thank you for not thinking I'm off my rocker for deciding to quit my job and pursue writing full time. At least not saying so to my face :) I love you.

4) Jason - Just quit your job and become a skiier already. Thanks for the crazy emails, the never ending supply of Simpsons quotes and your advice on men. You're like the brother I always wished I had.

5) The ACI Class of 2004 - I would not be the writer I am today if it hadn't been for my experience with you all in class. I miss you, and am thankful that none of you are famous yet - now I don't feel so bad about myself :) KIDDING!!!

6) The OC crew at Columbia Business School - I'm going to miss you girls!!

7) Cynthia & Belenda - Nearly 18 years of friendship...how'd we do it? Thanks for being the best friends anyone could ask for.

8) The Chancel Choir at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church - Sometimes the highlight of my week is singing with you and sharing the music. (Yes Shevy and Nick, I really do sing with a choir at church.)

9) Crazy people - Thank you for talking to me or doing things when I'm nearby that give me confidence that as weird as I know I am, there is always someone wackier.

10) Frank & DB - For guiding me as a writer and inspiring me to do more and work harder.

Happy New Year everyone!
