Please don't strike

We're getting a little nervous here in the ol' N Y of C thanks to the very real threat of a transit strike beginning on Friday. That means no subways or busses, and crazy restrictions on driving in the city. There's a lot of rhetoric between the transit workers and the MTA and frankly I don't really care. All I know is I had to spend the past 3 days organizing the contingency plan to get all the employees in my office to be able to get into work in the event of a strike. I had to make 20 separate town car reservations to get transportation for the 50 people in who NEED to be in the office. (How does the other 100 feel, knowing that their job turns out to be something that doesn;t really need to be done??) The lady taking my reservations clearly thought I totally jumping to conclusions, but I finally said to her "Look, Friday morning this may all be unneccesary when the strike doesn't happen. But if it DOES, nearly 47 billion poeple are going to be trying to call and book a car. I want to be first in line." Dead air on the other side of the line and then I hear "okay, I see your point." Ha ha. I win town car lady. I win.

I'm really hoping they don't strike for MANY reasons - on top of that list being that if they do, then my planned vacation is put on hold. If they strike, I have to go back to the office on Friday and work the phone lines. The regular receptionist lives too far away to reasonably get in to town (note to self...move far away), and since I'm the important office manager, I get to be on call. Oh yeah, real important...today I had the same person tell me that she was too hot in her office...and then a few hours later...too cold. I cleaned up broken glass (here's a tip...don't drop a full Snapple bottle on cement tile), and spent 20 minutes trying to figure out what was the reason for a strange banging noise coming from an air vent. Oh it's fun to be me. But I have one word for ya...

Health benefits.

Wait. That's two. Crap.

Anyway subway dudes, please don't strike. I do not spend 30 minutes in the freezing cold waiting for the 7 train every day just to have y'all strike.

Stay tuned!!
