I'm so mad I could eat a mouse. And not the cute squeaky kind, I mean the mouse connected to my computer. The strike is still looming over NYC which means one thing for me: I have to go into work today. I'd like to note that I AM ON VACATION RIGHT NOW. I was supposed to have all this week off to prepare for Christmas and finish up my acting class. But thanks to the very real possibility of a strike coupled with my boss's wife finally having their baby over the weekend (congratulations) I have to go into the office this afternoon to organize our contingency plan. The good thing about this is that we essentially already organized it last week when we thought the strike was happening Friday. So I just need to reactivate the car service arrangements and make sure that everyone who wants rides has one. It's my own fault of course for agreeing to go back in, but how was I going to say no to my boss? I mean, having the money won't be a bad thing. But they really need to NOT strike tomorrow - if they do, I have to go fill in for the receptionist Tuesday because she has no feasible way to go into town if there is no subway service, without incurring a huge expense.
I'm just really annoyed that a bunch of overpaid people have the city in a vice grip and there is nothing we can do about it. If they strike, we're MASSIVELY inconvenienced. If they don't, whatever they agreed to will make my subway fare rise yet again. So I'm either broke, or in fantastic shape because I've had to walk 5 miles each way to get anywhere. In December, a few days before Christmas.
Look, no one likes their job. But if you're making 65K a year plus benefits that most of us can only dream of, then you need to think really hard before you start complaining about how bad you have it. Shut up and go to work!!!
