In my attempt to share, in small tasteful ways mind you, details about my wedding, I thought a good place to start would be telling you what my "something old" will be. Plus thinking about this keeps me from obsessively checking my photographer's website to see if she's posted our engagement photos. Seriously, I'm dieing over here.
I love the tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". I think it's a cool way to tie your celebration to the past, present, future....and who doesn't like blue??
My "something old" will be from my Grandmother Crispin. She passed away this past November and I never really got to share any of my wedding details with her. I think she really would have liked to see all the fun DIY things I'm doing. I know she would have approved of my color palette as we are both big purple fans.
In the process of going through my Grandma's belongings, my cousin and dad found these two items which will be my "something old". I know technically it's 2 "something olds", but I think you'll see how they will tie together (no pun intended).
My grandmother had saved the ribbon she used to wrap her bouquet. It's still in perfect condition and a yellowed ivory that will look beautiful with my ivory gown. As you can see in the picture here, she also had attached some tinsel and dried flowers.

Grandma got married around Christmas time, and her favorite flower of the lily, so you can see how this all got incorporated at her wedding. I thought the ribbon would be a wonderful thing to commemorate both her special day - and mine.
I would have been delighted with the ribbon, but then my dad found THIS gem, literally:
It's a pin with a thistle, the flower of Scotland (oh yes, did I mention Grandma was Scottish?) We're not sure if it was hers, her mother's or a family friend's but the jeweler told my dad it was definitely antique. Frankly I don't care if Grandma bought it at Walmart's this past July. If it was hers, then I want it with me on my wedding day.
And if I'm lucky, I'll have a little daughter or granddaughter to pass these items on to for THEIR wedding days.
I think that's what's so special about the "something old" wedding item. Whether small or large, it reminds the wearer of her connection to history and the past, and let's us dream about our future.
(Sorry that got a bit heavy today, but I am a fairly emotional sap when it comes to stuff like this.)
You may have noticed today I started numbering my blog subjects. If you're really paying attention, you'll also start noticing that the numbers are going down. Anyone want to guess what that number means?
