Suky was able to get the dress in for me to try! It's waiting for me, and I'll go in Thursday afternoon (yes, while you're preparing for your Fourth of July festivities, I'll be preparing to jam myself into a sample gown). I'm nervous that I will end up not liking it, or possibly worse, ending up completely loving it and not being able to afford it.
Here's the write up from one of the salons in NYC that carries her:
"These gowns are for someone who is not afraid of the spotlight! Romona Keveza's bridal gowns are each an iconic reference to a Legendary Bride from fashion or society. Each is inspired by a glamorous woman and her own innovative sense of style - think Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner. The designs are theatrical and dramatic, often with the back of the gown as the point of focus. A Romona Keveza wedding gown is for a truly sensational bride.."
Wow. I think I'd be willing to try on a burlap sack if it were described like that.
The only downer is that the store is passing the cost of shipment on to me...even if I don't end up buying the dress I have to pay for them having gotten it in. I'm not put off that I have to do it, because I understand it's not cheap to get these things, because they got this specifically for me. But I would have liked to have known in advance. If I end up buying it, or anything else from the store, they put the payment towards my purchase, but still... The woman I've been working with said she emailed me about it, of course I didn't get it, (did my spam box eat it? Or did she not actually send it.) Look, frankly it's not going to stop me from paying it. I know that if I don't try this dress on I'll always wonder what I would have looked like in it.
And it's a good lesson - if a salon has to special order anything for you, even if it's just to try - ASK ABOUT ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES. This is good practice for any vendor you work with, and one I wish I'd paid attention to myself.
At any rate I will absolutely let you know how it all works out. Stay tuned!
