One of the earliest things we booked - right after the church in fact - was our photographer. I know, it was 2 years before the wedding. But the photography is really important to my FH and I. From our point of view the photo is likely one of the few things that you keep around, decorating your walls, desks at work, and of course, the all important blog. It's not like I'm going to frame the favors (we're skipping those) or wear my wedding gown on a regular basis. The photos capture your day, they capture the moments you might miss because you can't be 2 place at once. The photography was something we were going prioritize, for us it was that important.
So I researched and researched, and viewed tons of online portfolios. Sent out query emails, turned down a few immediately (like the one who charged $12,000 for a day...and also the place that just assigned whatever photog was available that weekend, you'd never meet the guy until he showed up at your place the day of!) Aggh.
It was a lot of fun seeing everyone's work, and as a once semi-pro photographer myself (I got into film school based on my photography work in high school and yes, I consider that semi-pro) I was hard to impress. I also plan events for my job - you can imagine how much fun I am with the catering vendors . Heehee.
We looked at the ladies at Dollface Studios, Sandor Welsh and Heather Fowler. All work in the Philadelphia area, are well reviewed and have the photojournalistic style we want. They ran the range of prices, and it eventually came down to who Adam and I felt most comfortable around. It's a huge day, the photographer is going to be everywhere with you, and they're going capture you in all your glory, and in the breakdown moments before the wedding when everyone around you is making you want to scream. I would also like to note it was a very difficult decision.
We went with Heather, and I just can't wait. She's getting married herself this fall and it's been fun exchanging wedding ideas with her. I'm also staying in touch with the Dollface girls, they do hair, make up and other photography and were really fun to meet with.
