The coolest thing happened to me last night...I was waiting for the 7 train, rockin' out to my MP3 player and this guy glances over and smiles at me. This is not typical subway behavior. Usually people glance over at me, grimace, then move awkwardly away. No, that's not true. They generally run.
So anyway this guy smiled and then finally turns to me and said "Is your name Gayle?" Holy crap! Um, yes, but how does this guy know!? Turns out Tom and I were in a sketch writing class together nearly 5 years ago. This was the first comedy writing class I had taken. Seems like a life time ago and I couldn't believe someone from that class had recognized me.
He was getting off at the same subway stop and I asked him where he lived. He described his neighborhood as having a dry cleaner, a 99 cent store and a chinese food place nearby. Okay guy, you just described every neighborhood in a 60 mile radius.
Anyway it was really cool to run into someone like that and we're going to get together soon. He just moved into the neighborhood and who better than me to show him around? Just as long as he stays away from my coffee shop. I gott have some place to go where I'm not recognized!
