Hey folks...so here's an interesting conversation starter. Tonight in class we got talking about how it might actually be difficult for a woman to break in to Hollywood as an action/sci fi or "dude" movie writer because before a reader even opens a script she/he sees your name and is going to have assumptions about your style of writing. Like, of COURSE chicks write good romantic comedies, it's cuz we're girls!
But it's actually a real barrier that, granted, can be overcome. But we were talking about using 'pen' names when you first get started that are not gender specific names. Like Pat, or Dakota. That way you're not type cast just because the studio assumes a chick can't write a good action sequence.
So the question is...what should I go by? I'm not talking a legal name change, just something I would go by when I start submitting scripts. Obviously I'd keep Crispin. I could do B.G. Crispin. But that seems sort of bland. Any suggestions??
