What is wrong with this picture??? Do you notice anything wrong? Other than the totally empty boardwalk and the ChaCha's Pizzeria that says it's "fun for the hole family" (hole family? What is that? Moles?) Do you see the fog? The virtually obscured ferris wheel? It was 85 degrees and so humid yesterday there was fog and lots of it. And because it was a weekday in September, all the rides and most of the stores along the board walk are closed. Even the Shoot the Freak was down! Only ONLY in Brooklyn is there a thing called "Shoot the Freak", where you literally shoot paint balls or air pellets at some poor bastard whose job it is to run around an obstacle course as he gets shot at by tourists.
But despite the less than stellar weather or availability of shooting freaks, my friends had a good time seeing a beach in NYC and walking around. A nice fisherman took our photo on the pier, and then, as we continued walking down the boardwalk, we came across a massive press conference the mayor was having about the new development they will be doing on Coney Island. Mayor Bloomberg! I have never seen the guy in person in the 3 years he's been an elected official, and here are my friends, seeing them on their second day in the city. We ran into the mayor's entourage later when we all went to Nathan's for hotdogs. This is why NY is so freakin' cool...
Our mayor, who is a bajillionaire, took time out of his busy day to sit down and eat a hot dog, fries and a coke with his secret service dudes. It was so freakin' awesome. I mean, of course it would have been a nice gesture if he'd bought everybody a hotdog (na na na, what's right is right...dogs....on the house!) but it was pretty cool. Wait, even COOLER would have been him competing in the annual hot dog eating contest they hold at Coney Island every year. Now THAT's politics.
I don't know what that meant either. Sorry.
