May sucks. It really does. The past few weeks at work have been way more stressful than I could have ever anticipated when I first accepted the job. Thankfully it is now all over (the stress, not the job) and the good times are just beginning. In just a couple weeks we'll go off to the annual staff retreat where the highlight of my year will occur. The staff talent show, or Follies, is really how I got into comedy and writing so many years ago. We're filming my short on Friday so I am so excited about that. Stay tuned for pics from the set (okay, my office). Class is going really well, I'm still working out the details on my new script and hope to be able to stay on track with my writing goals for the summer.
On an entirely different note, this story has completely struck my heart. A young woman named Molly at my high school back in Denver was hit by the limo Hummer she and her friends had rented for the prom. She had to have her leg amputated and suffered significant damage to her organs. She is in acoma, and the family has set up this blog as well as a recovery fund. I read it every day and am moved to tears every single time. What amazes me is the outpouring of love and support from total strangers. It's fascinating to me how personal stories can motivate us to help those who are suffering endure, and that from tragedy can come great change and hope.
