4 days with no wedding talk!

I just got back from Charleston, SC - a really spectacular city that I cannot wait to return to. This was no vacation though, it was a 8am to 10pm juggernaut of event planning. For work. Not for my wedding. Which sucks because if I had the choice, I would so totally get married in Charleston.

But not in August. How does 112 degrees sound to you? WITH HUMIDITY!? I would like to tell you that I lost lots of weight, but I must remind you that between eating my own weight in hush puppies and then having to sample menus at every restaurant we stopped at, well, this was not a weight loss week either.

But back to event planning...I have to admit it was mildly refreshing to not have internet access or agonizing brainstorm sessions about anything related to my wedding. It was fun to think about someone else's event where money really isn't an problem. Don't get me wrong, at every fancy venue, at every event design meeting where we talked about renting pool tables and lighting ideas, of COURSE I found myself momentarily thinking about my wedding. But it was very brief. The consultants I traveled with even offered to go with me to a bridal shop we walked by, but I declined.

I also thought of my wedding and gave silent prayers of thanks that my weddings would never be like the events the rental companies were describing: a 44 person bridal party. 22 bridesmaids and 22 groomsmen. WHAT!? A $490,000 wedding for 125 people. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so, I laughed. A lot. As in I had to excuse myself temporarily from the room.

The break of no official wedding stuff was definitely nice, and gives me a good reminder to remember that the wedding planning absolutely should not, and cannot, take over my life. It was also a good reminder that I absolutely am thrilled that the headcount on my bridal party doesn't go into double digits and that my total expenditure won't equal the cost of a mansion. Sometimes reality is a really nice place to be isn't it?

Stay tuned for the update on my dress...my search is definitely over!!!
